2018–2026
Effective Altruism Québec was dissolved in 2026 after eight years of activity.
History
Founded in 2018, AEQ was a Québec-based non-profit dedicated to promoting effective altruism. The organization:
- Organized events in Montréal and Québec City (talks, reading groups, workshops, social meetups)
- Guided donors toward high-impact interventions, including a $1M donation recommendation for poverty reduction in Sub-Saharan Africa
- Supported student groups (EA McGill, EA UdeM) and community projects
- Initiated the AI Safety Unconference event series
- Contributed to the localization of effective altruism resources in French

AEQ was co-founded by Mati Roy and Orpheus Lummis, then administered by Sophie Pelland, Keven Bisson, and Orpheus.
